  4. A search for dirt on Perot and Clinton costs an official her
  5. job

  8.     The passport-file scandle at the U.S. State Department has
  9. claimed a victim. Swamped by allegations that her subordinates
  10. searched the passport records of Ross Perot, Bill Clinton and
  11. Clinton's mother Virginia Kelley during the presidential
  12. campaign, Assistant Secretary of State Elizabeth M. Tamposi was
  13. forced to resign her post. Tamposi released a statement saying,
  14. in part, "I took no action that I deemed wrong or
  15. inappropriate." Not only that: she has reportedly told auditors
  16. that political appointee John F.W. Rogers, Under Secretary of
  17. State for Management, approved the search of Clinton's files.
  18. Investigators are also examining whether anyone from the White
  19. House or the Bush re-election campaign was involved. Commented
  20. Clinton: "If I catch anybody using the State Department like
  21. that when I'm President, you won't have to wait until after the
  22. election to see them gone."
